Blogging – Gratitude Rant #1

It was cold and drizzly when I woke up this morning. A sharp wind was moaning in the darkness. I could hear the raindrops pitter-pattering against the windows.

I let out a sigh and rolled over in bed.

All in all, it was just one of those dark, cold mornings when all you want to do is pull the covers up over your head and forget about the looming workday.

And I’ll admit, I was about to do just that — but then a little thought popped into my head:

Today is November 1st!

Today is the day I start my Gratitude Rants!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this little tradition of mine, let me explain. Every day in the month of November, I take some time to write a quick “rant” about something I’m thankful for; some little blessing I’ve experienced that day.

I’ve been doing it for years now, and I can honestly say, it really enriches my life.

And, like I was saying, this morning that thought stuck with me. It caught in my mind like a spark on tinder. It started as a small glow, and then it burned brighter and brighter, hotter and hotter. And finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I found myself jumping out of bed with an enthusiasm and hunger that I couldn’t have imagined just 5 minutes earlier.

Bring it on!

I was ready to face the day — and whatever life wanted to throw at me. And y’know why?

Because I was going to blog about it later!

(Did that sound incredibly nerdy to you, or was it just me?)

At any rate, it’s surprising how your perspective changes when you focus on gratitude. Instead of running into a trial or a roadblock, I tend to see it more as an adventure or a stepping-stone.

“Thanks giving” really is a powerful thing, and today I’m very grateful for this blog, because it kinda forces me (at least in the month of November) to express my thanks in a public forum.

So, without further ado, let the Thanksgiving season start!
