The Night After Christmas

Well, Christmas day has come and gone. The gifts have all been unwrapped. The fridge is full of leftovers. And to everyone suffering from the Post-Holiday Blues:

‘Twas the night AFTER Christmas, and there on the couch,
I sat with a blanket, in a comfortable slouch.

Lindsey was rocking our baby to sleep.
And it wouldn’t be long ’til we too counted sheep.
Wet stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
And my soggy old coat was draped over a chair.
Ironically, the day hadn’t started off all that swell,
We’d awoken to cold, frozen pipes at the well.
But we’ve lived here so long, and I’ve fought it enough,
That getting the water running again wasn’t tough.
The rest of the day was full of toys, books, and treats,
And I readily confess, I ate TOO MANY sweets!
The afternoon was spent with my two-year-old girl,
Playing outside in the wintery swirl.
She enjoyed every minute we played in the snow.
She didn’t even notice the icy wind blow.
Now the driveway was cleared, and the chores were all done.
It was time to relax from the blizzardy fun.
The monkey was nestled all snug in her bed,
But her cute little cheeks were still bright rosey red…
The Christmas tree glowed with a soft, homely light,
And the new pink toy microphone just completed the sight.
It was quiet and peaceful — a Heavenly scene.
Our cozy warm house was completely serene.
But now the day’s over, all the toys put away,
And we want to wish you all a Happy Holiday!

Merry Day-After-Christmas from the Lotts!
