Holding Hands – Gratitude Rant #8

So, funny story… Remember how I went swimming in the river a few days ago? Well, I kinda mighta sorta had my smartphone in my pants pocket at the time…

I swear, sometimes I can be such a doofus!

But there’s really no use crying over spilled milk, right? Sometimes you just gotta live and learn and then move on.

Unfortunately, this whole “moving on” business meant that I needed to start shopping for a new phone.

Now, there are a few things you ought to know about me:

1) I absolutely despise shopping!

2) I hate spending money!

3) I’m really not that into gadgets…

But this afternoon, when Lindsey loaded up our little monkey, drove into town, met me at the office, and suggested we go out for a little phone-shopping/lunch date — Well, I decided I could probably go along with that. 😉

And although I did have to endure some dreaded phone shopping, the lunch date at Olive Garden was FANTASTIC!

We don’t really do the whole “go out on the town” thing all that often, so it really was a special treat. And y’know what the best part of the whole thing was?

Holding hands!

Yep, that’s right — just your plain old, run-of-the-mill hand holding!

We held hands in the car while we drove across town. We held hands as we walked across the parking lot. Both of us even reached across the table and held hands at the restaurant. I tell ya, it was so nice to just hold hands!

It’s kinda funny how that one simple act of affection really seems to tie you closer together as a couple.

Seriously! Holding hands with Lindsey just makes the world a happier, safer place. It’s a reassurance that no matter what happens, my best friend is still right there by my side.

If I start to lag behind (figuratively or literally), she’ll be there to encourage me onward.

If I get a little too eager or too far ahead of myself, she’ll be there to help reign me in and show me reason. 😉

Heck, I sometimes feel like I’m in the middle of some Junior High crush because I look forward to holding her hand so much!

But it’s not like holding hands is something new

Lindsey and I have been married for almost 7 years now, and yet we still try to BEGIN and END each day holding hands in prayer (and as much as possible throughout the day).

I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I’m very grateful to show some mild PDA with my sweetheart!
